This article really hits home for me as a Computer Science major in the college of arts and science. The goal for me in college was to learn about programming and art to make videogames or computer graphics. For me reading this article was really interesting as I’ve heard a lot about what the author Rachel Greene was talking about when it comes to the creation of computers and more importantly the emerging web. What was interesting to me though that I hadn’t ever heard about was some of the crazy cool artistic programming projects that came from the emerging web. It’s crazy to me with what the internet is today that at one point not only more than 20 years ago no one knew what was going on with the internet. It’s even more crazy because the internet was a huge open and empty canvas for programmers to create just about anything with the right amount oof creativity and skills. Some of these first art projects have defined what the internet looks like today and I feel like has added a lot of influence to what people are doing today with art and programming. It’s also interesting to read about how domain names were such a hot commodity and people would get in lawsuits over them just like they do today, for example the one troll who bought Nissan.com and turned it into a hilarious boycott site. Truly the internet has grown very fast and things are completely different now, and what’s exciting is that there is still so much to come from the internet.
