Reading Blog #2

It’s crazy to me after reading the article, “Searching for Silence - Jon Cage’s art of noise” by Alex Ross, that John Cage has essentially paved the pathway to a ton of music genres that are widely listened to today. John Cage’s “4’33” resonates through each generation of musical advancement and has been key for music to develop and have the genres that exist today. One of the key things of a lot of elm songs is to just have weird noises that sound good together and I think that a lot of that comes from people overtime excepting that music can be the weird style of music that John Cage reached to produced. Along with this, A couple of years ago I remember watching a documentary about the band Pink Floyd and how they got started making rock music. They said that in the beginning they would just bang instruments together and when they got a good sounding noise they would just go with it. You can even grasp the elements of “4’33” in almost all of pink Floyds songs as they will clip together weird sounding noises to begin their songs, most notable in “Time” and “Wish You Were Here”. Pink Floyd is definitely one of the best examples of using the core theme of music that John Cage trying to prove to the world. All in all John Cage’s redefinition of music was very much so for the greater good of humanity as we probably would not have been inspired to create the genres we have now.
